CATERING TO DIFFERENT LIFESTYLES

Catering to different learning styles is extremely important since it builds confidence in every individual, makes them feel equally important and useful as the others and most importantly motivates a student to perform better.

Identifying the needs of the students is the first step to be taken. This could be done through questionnaires, asking students to draw, using starters that would target the students’ preferences and many more other strategies. When you know how to cater to different learning styles, you will be able to maximize your chances for motivating your student. The ultimate payback will be giving your students the love of learning.

LEARNER FEED BACK

What do I gain from learner feedback?
  • Am I providing my learners with what they require to improve and excel?
  • What do they really think about the lessons?
  • What are their expectations from me as their teacher?
  • What am I doing right and what changes should I be making?
  • What are their preferred ways of learning?
  • What should I do to make a better lesson plan the next time?
  • Are the students enjoying learning?
Finding out what your learners think, want, expect, and need helps you to understand how you can make your lessons more effective. Asking for their feedback involves them in the learning process and helps them to take responsibility for their learning. It encourages two-way reflection. You can also let your learners know when you try out something new and find out whether they felt it was successful. The focus is always on methodology, materials, tasks, activities etc and not on judging you as a teacher.
There are many simple ways to get a feedback of which a few are questionnaires, reflective thinking and having a comment box in class for those who feel shy to come forward and speak to you.

AIMS AND FEED BACK

I would define AIMS as the ultimate goals that one desires to achieve and OBJECTIVES as the measures that one takes to reach the goals.

WHY ICT?

I believe that the 'Use of ICT' would be the best option for me because I have always kept ICT to the minimum in the classroom due to the fact that I am not very confident using it. Technology is not one of my strengths and I strongly feel the urge to develop it to the mutual interests of the students as well as my career.
